Meet the Pleasure Beach WLGs!
This summer, we have three returning Wildlife Guards; Sara, Derien, and Ichell. Sara and Derien have both graduated high school while Ichell is starting her sophomore year. Sara is pursuing a pre-med degree while Derien is focusing on fashion merchandising.
.Sara, Derien, and Ichell are eager to take the new guards under the wing and teach them the ins and outs to the Wildlife Guard program.
New to the program are Alex, Anthony, Natalie, Nivea, and Nicole. Alex Aquino, a senior at Fairchild Wheeler, is eager to learn about the importance of shore-nesting birds. One of his goals for the summer is to be familiar with all the birds that can be found on Pleasure Beach.
Anthony Love Jr. and Nicole Llivisaca, both sophomores at Fairchild Wheeler, both enjoy monitoring the birds and making a difference for the birding community, as well as experiencing new places and learning from new people. Their goals this summer are to learn many butterflies and dragonflies. Anthony's favorite field trip is Mystic Aquarium.
Natalie Sinclair, another graduate from Fairchild Wheeler, loves interacting and educating the beachgoers on the different shorebirds that she learned about while working as a Guard. Her goal for the summer is to know how to identify a bird from its bird call.
Lastly, Nivea Ortiz, a sophomore at Central Magnet High School, has shown her interest in wildlife, especially birds this summer. One of her favorite activities is Touch Tank because she gets to see the variety of wildlife that lives on Pleasure Beach.
